Medication Technician Annual Renewal Course (2 Hours)
Course Overview:
The Medication Technician Annual In-Service Training offered by Nursing Education Training Center (NETC™ Health) is a 2-hour renewal course designed for unlicensed personnel assisting with the self-administration of medications in Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) and home care settings throughout Florida.
This course provides a comprehensive review of safe medication practices in accordance with guidelines established by the Agency for Health Care Administration, Florida Statutes Chapter 429, and Florida Administrative Code Rule 59A-8.0097.
Participants will review the legal scope of practice for Medication Technicians, emphasizing the importance of assisting with self-administration of medications while following physician orders, facility policies, and resident rights. The course also reinforces proper medication safety procedures, infection control practices, and accurate documentation using the Medication Administration Record (MAR).

- The 6 Rights of Medication Administration
- Medication error prevention and reporting
- PRN medications and medication parameters
- Medication classifications and routes of administration
- Side effects and adverse reactions
- Controlled substances and medication storage
- Infection control and PPE
- Documentation and resident observation/reporting
This course is intended to support continued competency, promote resident safety, and help healthcare personnel remain compliant with annual training requirements for medication assistance in Florida healthcare settings.
Upon successful completion of the course and final exam, participants will receive a Medication Technician Annual In-Service Training Certificate.
Requirement:
After successful completion of the training course, participants must provide proof of a current and valid Medication Technician certification. Once both requirements have been satisfied, participants will receive a 2-Hour Medication Technician Annual Renewal Certificate.
This renewal certification is valid for twelve (12) months / one (1) year from the course completion date, in accordance with guidelines established by the Agency for Health Care Administration and Florida Administrative Code Rule 59A-8.0097.
