Assisted Living Facility (ALF)

Overview:

The Med Tech Certification Course provides students with 6 hours of specialized training on assisting with the self-administration of medications in an Assisted Living Facility (ALF). This course covers the essential knowledge and skills needed to support patients in safely managing their medications, ensuring compliance with state regulations. Upon completion, students will be qualified to assist with medication administration, enhancing their ability to provide care in ALFs environments.

Medication administration is a critical practice that involves providing patients with prescribed medications to ensure effective treatment and care. To perform this task effectively, individuals must have a solid understanding of the medications they are administering, including their benefits, side effects, dosage, and the appropriate method of administration. Familiarity with the proper techniques and equipment for safe medication delivery is also essential.

Before administering medication, an unlicensed individual must verify several key factors:

  • The medication prescribed is appropriate for the patient.
  • The correctness of the medication name, dose, route, and frequency of administration.
  • Ensure the patient has no known allergies to the medication.
